SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – KQED, the public media organization that serves Northern California, is pleased to announce 17 nominations for the 2012 Northern California Emmy® Awards for its public television stations KQED and KQED Plus. The programs recognized include QUEST, a local series concentrating on science, nature, and the environment; This is Us, a series profiling the remarkable people of the South Bay; as well as numerous documentaries and specials.

The 41st annual Northern California Area EMMY® Award ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square (333 O’Farrell Street) with host John Kessler.

The Emmy® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  San Francisco/Northern California is one of the twenty chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of television and cable stations from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada.  Entries were aired during the 2011 calendar year.
